The Abdim's stork (Ciconia abdimii), also called the white-bellied stork, is a type of stork.

Description

The Abdim's stork is a black stork with grey legs, red knees and feet, grey bill and white underparts. It has red skin on the face in front of the eye and blue skin near the bill in breeding season. It is the smallest species of stork. It only grows about 73 cm (29 in) long. It has a weight of just over 1 kg (2.2 lbs).

Distribution

The Abdim's stork lives in open habitats across Eastern Africa, from Ethiopia to South Africa. This stork has escaped or have been released into Florida, USA. There is no evidence that they are reproducing in Florida.

The Abdim's stork is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
