Basidiomycota is one of two large phyla that, together with the Ascomycota, comprise the subkingdom Dikarya (often referred to as the "Higher Fungi") within the Kingdom Fungi, that includes jelly and shelf, or bracket, mushrooms, puffballs, and stinkhorns; and the rusts and smuts.
