CSX is a United States-based holding company and is the primary freight and rail company in North America. The company formed as a merger of many smaller rail companies over the years. It became known as CSX in 1980.
The earliest companies that would become CSX started in the Antebellum Period. They forced slaves to build and run the railroads and made more money by connecting to other railroads that were built by slaves.
