Camp Point is a village in Adams County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,132 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Quincy, IL–MO Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Geography

Camp Point is located at 40°2′30″N 91°3′54″W / 40.04167°N 91.06500°W / 40.04167; -91.06500 (40.041676, -91.065136).

According to the 2010 census, Camp Point has a total area of 1.14 square miles (2.95 km2), all land.

History

Camp Point was founded in 1835 by Peter Garrett and was originally called Garrett's Mills. A school house was built here in 1836.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,244 people, 469 households, and 314 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,312.1 people per square mile (505.6/km2). There were 514 housing units at an average density of 542.1 per square mile (208.9/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 99.20% White, 0.08% Native American, 0.08% Asian, and 0.64% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.48% of the population.

There were 469 households, out of which 33.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.0% were married couples living together, 12.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% were non-families. 29.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.09.

In the village, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 19.0% from 45 to 64, and 20.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 88.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.8 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $31,094, and the median income for a family was $43,646. Males had a median income of $28,000 versus $21,466 for females. The per capita income for the village was $15,211. About 9.5% of families and 11.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.9% of those under age 18 and 17.3% of those age 65 or over.
