Chōkyō (長享) was a Japanese era name (年号, nengō, lit. year name) after Bunmei and before Entoku. This period started in July 1487 and ended in August 1489. During this time, the emperor was Go-Tsuchimikado-tennō (後土御門天皇).

Events of the Chōkyō era

In the 2nd year of Chōkyō, construction work at Ryōan-ji was started.
  • 1487 (Chōkyō 1, 8th month): Shogun Ashikaga Yoshihisa led a large army against the daimyo of southern Ōmi Province.
  • 1488 (Chōkyō 2): Ryōan-ji is built by Hosokawa Katsumoto.
