Chesterville was laid out in 1829, and named after Chester Township. A post office was established at Chesterville in 1832.
Chesterville is located at(40.479649, -82.683564). It is considered to be a part of "Central Ohio".
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.22 square miles (0.57 km2), of which, 0.21 square miles (0.54 km2) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water.
As of the census of 2010, there were 228 people, 79 households, and 50 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,085.7 inhabitants per square mile (419.2/km2). There were 83 housing units at an average density of 395.2 per square mile (152.6/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 97.8% White and 2.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.4% of the population.
There were 79 households of which 38.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.0% were married couples living together, 16.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 8.9% had a male householder with no wife present, and 36.7% were non-families. 26.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 2.98.
The median age in the village was 40.5 years. 25.4% of residents were under the age of 18; 5.3% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 23.7% were from 25 to 44; 25.5% were from 45 to 64; and 20.2% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the village was 45.6% male and 54.4% female.
As of the census of 2000, there were 193 people, 57 households, and 42 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,036.6 people per square mile (828.0/km²). The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.10.
