Chiyono Hasegawa (長谷川 チヨノ, Hasegawa Chiyono, 20 November 1896 – 2 December 2011) was a Japanese supercentenarian. At the time of her death, she was the oldest person in Japan, the second oldest person in the world and the oldest person in Asia.

Timeline

  • 2008 (Heisei 20): On Senior Citizen's Day, Governor Furukawa of Saga Prefecture visited her at her nursing home. She was the oldest person living in the prefecture.
  • 2010 (Heisei 22): In May 2010, She became the oldest living Japanese person.
  • 2011 (Heisei 23): She died of natural causes, aged 115. After her death, Jiroemon Kimura became the oldest person in Japan, and Koto Okubo the oldest women in Japan.
