Clifton is a city in Wayne County, Tennessee. The population was 2,694 at the 2010 census. The South Central Correctional Facility is located in Clifton.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.0 square miles (18 km2), of which, 6.4 square miles (17 km2) of it is land and 0.5 square miles (1.3 km2) of it (7.75%) is water.

There were 392 housing units at an average density of 61.0 per square mile (23.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 59.69% White, 39.42% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.04% Asian, 0.44% from other races, and 0.30% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.85% of the population.

There were 353 households out of which 26.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.0% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.8% were non-families. 34.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.93.

In the city, the population was spread out with 7.0% under the age of 18, 13.3% from 18 to 24, 56.2% from 25 to 44, 17.7% from 45 to 64, and 5.9% who were 65 years of age or older.
