Douglas is a village in Otoe County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 173 at the 2010 census.

History

Douglas was platted in about 1888. Douglas was the maiden name of the wife of the original owner of the town site.

Geography

Douglas is located at 40°35′35″N 96°23′14″W / 40.59306°N 96.38722°W / 40.59306; -96.38722 (40.592966, -96.387099).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.22 square miles (0.57 km2), all of it land.

2010 census

As of the census of 2010, there were 173 people, 79 households, and 46 families living in the village. The population density was 786.4 inhabitants per square mile (303.6/km2). There were 102 housing units at an average density of 463.6 per square mile (179.0/km2). The racial makeup of the village was 98.3% White, 1.2% African American, and 0.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.6% of the population.

There were 79 households, of which 26.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.8% were married couples living together, 5.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 6.3% had a male householder with no wife present, and 41.8% were non-families. 32.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.19 and the average family size was 2.83.

The median age in the village was 44.5 years. 21.4% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.3% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 22.6% were from 25 to 44; 39.9% were from 45 to 64; and 9.8% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the village was 49.1% male and 50.9% female.
