Haguenau is a commune in Alsace in north-eastern France, in the Bas-Rhin department, of which it is a subprefecture. It is in the Grand Est region.
It is second in size in the Bas-Rhin only to Strasbourg, some 30 km (19 mi) to the south.

Haguenau is in the northern part of the Bas-Rhin department. The Moder river, a left tributary of the Rhine river, flows through the commune.
It has an area of 182.6 km2 (70.5 sq mi), the commune of Alsace with the largest territory. Its average altitude is 159 m (522 ft); at the city hall, the altitude is 140 m (460 ft).
