Description: From matters locomotive to matters firmly fixed to the ground for Towering Tuesday. This is "Been's Pillar, Liscannor" according to the catalogue, but I admit that I don't remember seeing it there in my many visits... ... and so it seems while the location is broadly correct, the label isn't 100%. With thanks to [/photos/8468254@N02/ derangedlemur] & [/photos/beachcomberaustralia/ beachcomberaustralia], we learned today that this is O'Brien's Pillar by Bridget's Well near Liscannor, County Clare. Built in the 1850s, it is a memorial to Cornelius O'Brien (1782-1857), who - amongst other things - had a hand in the tourism development of the nearby Cliffs of Moher. For example, the also eponymous O'Brien's viewing tower at the cliffs. Will have to pay a little more attention the next time passing on the road from Lahinch to the cliffs... Photographer: Thomas H.
