Description: The 117th Mahrattas, originally raised in 1800, were for many years known as the 17th Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry before being re-designated as the 117th in 1903. They assumed the title 5th Battalion The Mahratta Light Infantry during the 1922 restructuring of the Indian Army.
