Description: Caption from original book: "Ruislip Village, c.1907. On the right of the picture are part of the buildings of the George Inn and Crookall's butchers shop on the corner of the High Street. Across the road, the white fronted shop was Laurence's baker shop from 1901 until 1907. The lychgate to St Martin's church was erected in 1902 to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII. To the left of the lychgate was the Old Bell Inn. The two cottages on the corner were demolished in 1927 for road widening. On the left is Hailey's post office and tea rooms where the first telephone exchange was sited. The group of men caught by the camera include a clergyman and a policeman."
