Description: Pāhoa, Hawaii, May 24, 2018 – Rance Scarborough, a Telecommunications Specialist with one of FEMA’s Mobile Emergency Response Support (MERS) teams, installs a miniature satellite to provide internet connectivity to an air monitoring station that will analyze gasses released during the Kīlauea volcanic eruption. Without internet, data about the air quality cannot be collected and evaluated. FEMA continues to work with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Hawaii Department of Health (DOH) to install air monitoring stations around the affected area to analyze public health threats.
