Image: 79th Regiment (Cameronian Volunteers, Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders) and Cameron of Erracht tartan, tileable

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Description: This tartan was originally that of the Cameronian Volunteers, 79th Regiment of Foot, later renamed the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. It was later adopted as tartan of the Cameron of Erracht branch of Clan Cameron. (Variants on this pattern exist, manufactured by different weavers, sometimes with the paired red over-checks of the same width, and sometimes with the over-checks given different spacing; the version shown here is that recorded in the Scottish Register of Tartans.) This image is exactly full-sett, and can tile horizontally and vertically. The tartan is unusual in using a brighter, more vivid blue than the typical dark "tartan blue". SRT notes on this pattern: "Designed for the 79th Cameron Highlanders raised by Alan Cameron of Erracht in 1793. It was later adopted by the clan." This is a typical mirroring tartan. SRT-provided thread count (in "/" notation), and using an approximation of the average blue used by various different weavers (and not the outright purple shown [as of 2023-06] by the SRT, which is just wrong): /G16 R2 G2 R6 G32 K32 R2 B32 R6 B16 Y4/ It can also be rendered in boldface notation as: G16 R2 G2 R6 G32 K32 R2 B32 R6 B16 Y4
