Description: A Middle East Soldier Revisits Britain- Life in Wartime Exeter, Devon, England, UK, October 1943 A view down Queen Street, Exeter, taken from the upper window of a building, looking across the shops to the hills and countryside beyond. Several cars can be seen, although the road is quite empty of traffic. Pedestrians can be seen going about their daily business. The large shop on the left, complete with columns and portico is 'Eastman's Ltd'. Further down the street, a sign reads: 'To-Day's Good Deed: Help YOUR Hospital. Contributions urgently needed'. Beyond that can be seen the Central Garage. On the right hand side of the photograph, the Queen's Hotel is just visible. A sign for 'Helen Tomlinson Ladies Hairdresser' can also just be seen.
