Description: A female Fire Guard using a stirrup pump on the roof of a building in London, 1941. A striking portrait of a female member of the Fire Guard using a stirrup pump. She is clearly on a roof (perhaps of Senate House in London, the Ministry of Information headquarters) and the skyline of the city can just be seen in the background. She is wearing her Fire Guard armband and a steel helmet, and carries her gas mask. This photograph was probably taken in October 1941.
