Description: The former Andover Union workhouse viewed from Junction Road, Andover, Hampshire, England, UK. The building was designed by architect Sampson Kempthorne (1809–1873) in 1835, and construction was completed in 1836. It utilized his standard "cruciform" design with a combined entrance and administrative block facing east – the building shown in this image – which originally contained the Board of Guardians' board-room, porter's quarters, a nursery and stores. Partially visible to the right of the image is the building which originally housed the female sick wards. The buildings and former grounds are now a luxury residential development, renamed The Cloisters.
