Description: Arms of Catherine of York, Countess of Devon, sixth daughter of King Edward IV and wife of William Courtenay, 1st Earl of Devon (died 1511), of Tiverton Castle, Devon, as seen above the south porch of St Peter's Church, Tiverton. The arms are Courtenay impaling the paternal arms of his wife, Catherine of York. The shield is divided in halves: On the left (dexter), arms of the Earl of Devon: Quarterly, 1st & 4th: Or, three Torteaux (Courtenay); 2nd & 3rd: Or, a Lion rampant Azure (Redvers). On the right (sinister), arms of the English royal House of York: Quarterly 1st: royal arms of Edward IV (descended from Lionel, Duke of Clarence); 2nd & 3rd: Or, a cross gules (de Burgh: Elizabeth de Burgh, 4th Countess of Ulster), 4th: Barry of six or and azure, on a chief of the first two pallets between two gyrons of the second over all an inescutcheon argent (Mortimer: Edmund Mortimer, 3rd Earl of March). These arms were also borne, with baton sinister, by Arthur Plantagenet, 1st Viscount Lisle, KG, (died 1542), the illegitimate son of Edward IV.
