Description: Badge of the Wales Herald of Arms Extraordinary, a herald extraordinary of the College of Arms. Approved on the 13 October 1967. The Croes Naid (Neyt or Gneth) was a wooden cross adorned with gold, silver and jewels, within which was a small piece of the True Cross. For many years the most treasured possession of the Welsh, it was surrendered to Edward I in 1283. On the foundation of the Order of the Garter, Edward III gave it to the Chapel of the Order at Windsor, where it became the chief relic. The design of the Welsh herald's badge is taken from a roof boss in St. George's Chapel, Windsor, which shows the Croes Naid set against King Edward's 'sunray' badge. Blazon: Issuant from an open Royal Crown of the 13th century Or, a representation of the Croes Naid also Or, jewelled Proper.
