Description: The NRHP-listed Bruno Gernt House in Allardt, Tennessee, USA. The plaque on the right end of the house reads: BRUNO GERNT HOUSE c. 1881 Bruno Gernt (1851-1932), son of Ernst and Johanna, was born in Dresden, Saxony, Germany. After immigrating to Michigan in 1873, Gernt visited the Cumberland Plateau about 1879. By 1881, he had planned, designed, and begun colonization of Allardt. Visualizing a colony of farms and industry, he moved his wife, Selma Weber Gernt, and three children to this site in 1882; five more children were born in Allardt. Gernt pioneered the county's oil timber, and coal industries. He has been called "one of the best friends Fentress County ever had." The Bruno Gernt House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
