Description: Buai khem (Thai script: บ๊วยเค็ม) is Thai for "salted (Chinese) plums". They are made from the fruit of the Prunus mume, also known as "Chinese Plum" or "Japanese Apricot". These pickled, dried, and salted fruit are known as huamei (話梅) in Mandarin. One of the plums is shown with part of the flesh cut away, showing the seed. The plums in the image were grown, produced and bought in the Thai-Yunnanese/Akha village of Doi Mae Salong (also known as Santhikiri). They are usually eaten as a sweet.
