Description: For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. ADN-ZB Erich Maria Remarque, bürgerlich-antifaschistischer Schriftsteller mit gesellschafts-kritisch-pazifistischer Haltung, geboren 22.6.1898 in Osnabrück Remarque übersiedelte 1932 in die Schweiz, 1933 wurden von den Nazis seine Bücher verbrannt und ihm die deutsche Staatsbürgerschaft aberkannt. Er emigrierte 1939 in die USA (New York). Bekannteste Werke: "Im Westen nichts Neues" (1929), "Drei Kameraden" (1938), "Arc de Triomphe" (1946) UBz: Remarque trifft am 23.3.1939 auf der "Queen Mary" in New York ein
