Description: Photograph / sketch of Claude-Nicolas-Guillaume de Lorimier. Claude-Nicolas-Guillaume de Lorimier (1744-1825) was also known as Major de Lorimier or Teiohatekon. He is the father of George de Lorimier and a key source of the antagonism that was felt toward his son and other so-called 'white' Kahnawake residents in the nineteenth century. He and his twelve children descended from a French military family. In 1783, following his service during the American Revolution as one of the officers of British Indian warriors, he married an Iroquois woman by the name of Marie-Louise Schuyler and the couple moved to Kahnawake, where he became resident agent. In 1801, after the deaths of his first two wives, the second of which was white, Claude married Iroquois Anne Skaouennetsi (also known as Anne McGregor or Anne Gregory) with whom he had four children, including George de Lorimier. After the War of 1812, he gradually retired from military life. He remained in Kahnawake until his death in 1825
