Description: A thick sequence of Cleveland Shale is exposed at Fort Hill near Cedar Point along the north bank of the Rocky River in North Olmstead, Ohio. This exposure is easily viewed from an observation deck at the Rocky River Nature Center. Note the paleontologist prospecting the exposure for fossils near the bottom-center of the exposure in this image for scale. The yellowish tan material at the top of the cliff is glacial till and contains rounded clasts up to boulder size. Fossil collection in the Cleveland Metroparks is by permit only.
