Description: The Yasargil clips are applied using these compression forceps, made by Jetter and Scheerer. Yasargil clips are used during neurosurgery to help treat aneurysms. This is where a blood vessel wall is weakened and begins to swell, a condition that can occur anywhere in the body. Blood vessels can also burst, causing internal bleeding. This is especially dangerous if the burst occurs in the brain. These clips were invented by M Gazi Yasargil (b. 1925), one of the pioneer in applying microsurgery techniques to neurosurgery. They are still made today and are available from most surgical instrument suppliers. The forceps are shown here with two Yasargil clips (A616253). maker: Jetter and Scheerer Place made: Tuttlingen, Freiburg district, Baden-Württemberg, Germany Wellcome Images Keywords: Surgical Instruments; forceps; yasargil clip
