Description: Cornelia Branch Stone in 1908. Stone was born in Nacogdoches, Republic of Texas, in February 1840. Her father, Edward Thomas Branch, fought in the Texas Revolution, served in the Congress of the Republic of Texas, was an Associate Justice of the Texas Supreme Court, and served in the Texas State House of Representatives. She was the wife of businessman Henry Clay Stone, a Virginian who took up residence in Galveston, Texas, in the United States. Her husband died in 1887. She was a fierce advocate for women's involvement in the political process, president of Texas Federation of Women's Clubs, an officer in the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and president of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Her son, Dr. Harry D. Stone, died about 1907. She was also the aunt of Representative Clay Stone Briggs. Cornelia Branch Stone died on January 18, 1925.
