Description: This is a Poastcard dating from 1908, of Cromarty Tennis Club, a private tennis club situated in the community of Sydney, now part of Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Regional Municipality. Cromarty Tennis Club is one of the oldest tennis clubs in Nova Scotia, established at its present location along Reservoir Brook (formerly Wentworth Creek or Sullivan's Brook), Sydney in 1902. The caption on the postcard reads: "At Play on the Tennis Courts, Sydney, C.B." Please notice the 1903 Club House and the two (possibly) grass courts (Court 3 and Court 4 (foreground). Eight Players And One Umpire Or Line Judge. 25 September, 1908. According to Scott Robson, Curator, History Collection, Nova Scotia Museum, the base photo was b&w, and a publisher might have presumed that the ground was grass even if not. The texture is not clear in the original postcard image. The book "Post Cards of Cape Breton Island", by Ken C. MacDonald (printed by Scotia Stamp Studio, Halifax, about 1988), dates all postcards published by Albert M. MacLeod as between 1906 and 1911. The tennis court image is on MacDonald's list for MacLeod's cards that were printed in Belgium, between 1906 and 1909.
