Description: Detail of the Conchita Sapphire Butterfly (also known as "Conchita," the "Sapphire Butterfly Brooch", and the "Montana Butterfly Brooch"), showing the large blue Yogo sapphire in the head of the 14k gold setting. The jewelry piece was commissioned in February 2006 by Robert Kane of Fine Gems International (Helena, Montana, United States), using gems in his firm's collection. Kane hired jewelrey designer Paula Crevoshay to craft an 18 karat gold setting for the gems. Crevoshay crafted the butterfly setting, and called the finished piece "Conchita" in honor of her mother. Kane and Crevoshay donated the piece to the Smithsonian Institution in February 2007. See: "Conchita Sapphire Butterfly G10539." GeoGallery. Department of Mineral Sciences.
