Description: An incomplete metal bow brooch of Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) date c. 45-c. 550). The brooch is cross-shaped with the top of the bow in the form of a stylised facing human head. The head and the foot as well as the ends of the wings terminate with a flat roundel. There is a fifth rounder forming the end of the enlarged nose. At the front, the lower part of the bow is ribbed horizontally to form six grooves. Viewing the brooch from the side, the pin-lug is ‘D’-shaped and the catch-plate is sub-rectangular. The pin is missing. c. 33.0 x c. 18.3mm. The above description has been made from a poor quality photograph enhanced using Photoshop.
