Description: The Eclipse Mill at 243 Union Street between Rand and Gallup Streets in North Adams, Massachusetts was built in 1896 as a textile mill, and was part of a large complex of mill buildings along Union Street. It and another mill across the street were purchased in 1911 by a wool manufacturer, the Hoosac Mill Corporation of Boston. In the 1950s, the Eclipse Mill was purchased by Sprague Electronics and was used until 1971 to manufacture capacitor parts. It was sold to a military contractor, the X-Tyal Corporation, which went bankrupt in the early 1990s. From 2002-2005 artist and developer Eric Rudd converted it into forty studio loft condominiums in which artists can live and work. The building also contains several art galleries, a pottery gallery and a bookstore. (Sources:[1], [2], [3])
