Image: Elaeis guineensis - noix de palme oil palm - harvesting fruits from the the cluster
Description: An approximately 10 kg stem with fruits. When ripe, fruits detach easily. They can be rinsed and eaten raw or pressed to extract oil or boiled or cooked in more complex traditional African recipes. Not a sweet or juicy type of fruit, but with very little pulp with fibers over a hard kernel, yet with flavor and a high oil content. A very important fruit crop in African cuisine across the entire rainy equatorial African climatic region, from West Africa through Central Africa to East Africa.
