Description: Elton Hall View east to the front of the hall, which is just catching the last rays of the December sun. The present Gothic-style house was remodelled in the 1760s around an existing half-timbered core. Thomas Andrew Knight lived here between 1791 and 1808, after which he moved to Downton Castle. Knight created the landscape park and was a leading breeder of fruit varieties. Some of these varieties are still around in the orchard here, including apples Bringewood Pippin and Elton Beauty, cherry Black Eagle and pear Monarch. Knight was one of the founder members of the Royal Horticultural Society and later becaume its president. Today the gardens hold national collections of echinaceas and rudbeckias. http://property.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/property/gardens/article562968.ece
