Image: Euporie-discovery-CFHT-annotated
Description: Animation of three discovery images of Jupiter's irregular moon Euporie (S/2001 J 10), taken by David Jewitt and Scott Sheppard using the 3.6-meter Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) on 11 December 2001. Each image was taken approximately 30 minutes apart, showing the moon's motion relative to the background stars and galaxies. Jupiter's bright glare is visible from the right and the black spots on the stars are image artifacts resulting from overexposed pixels. The apparent magnitude of Euporie is 23.2. The raw image datasets used are 615434p, 615441p, and 615448p. For comparison, the star field in these images can be viewed at the CDS's Aladin star atlas.
