Description: During the 1987 San Francisco Historic Trolley Festival, ex-Kobe (Japan) streetcar 578 turns into the Transbay Terminal loop from First Street, in scheduled service on the F-Market line. Car 578 (often referred to as "578-J" or "578(J)" to distinguish it from another San Francisco streetcar numbered 578) was built in 1927 for the Kobe City Railway (as No. 574, later renumbered 578). After World War II (or not until after the closure of the Kobe streetcar system in 1971, according to one source), it was sold to the Hiroshima system and operated on that system for several more years, keeping its two-tone green Kobe paint scheme. It was brought to San Francisco in 1986, for operation in the annual Trolley Festival service.
