Description: Figs of Ficus carica cultivar (variety) Panascè, wood and figs in two-toned yellow-green bands. Variety originated by spontaneous mutation, recovered in Liguria when it was considered lost (extinct). These dressings (of variegated figs and leaves) are in the same individual due the presence of two types of cells with different genetics. It is a Chimera. The yellow cells are changed with a disadvantageous mutation, and are in fact unable to produce chlorophyll and form tissues connected and united with those normal green, but distinct, i.e. not mixed with cells to normal parenchyma. Picture taken in Spain.
