Description: On the shoulder, deer attacked by sphinxes and griffins, water birds; On the body, bull attacked by lion. This fine fragment represents an early phase in the development of Fikellura pottery. In the animal groups as well as the drawing, there is a vitality that later subsides. The name Fikellura derives from a site on the island of Rhodes to which this fabric has been attributed. It is now established that the center of production was Miletus.
