Description: Soupir N° I National Cemetery near the Chemin des Dames ridge with graves of soldiers who fought in the Second Battle of Aisne in 1917. Crosses mark the graves of French soldiers, and white tombstones with Arabic script mark the graves of French colonial "Senegalese" (North and West African) soldiers. (The German Cemetery at Soupir is adjacent to Soupir N° I to the west, and Soupir N° 2 National Cemetery is immediately across the street, to the south.) Note: Soupir (Aisne) is located about 140 km northeast of Paris, near Soissons.
