Image: Garter swallowing frog
Description: I took this photo around 11am, 14 Aug 2007 west of Ottawa, Canada. Likely Thamnophis sauritus septentrionalis or Thamnophis sauritus sauritus - based on location, most likely T. s. septentrionalis. This snake is Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis. Note that the lateral yellow stripe occurs on the 2nd and 3rd scale rows. On Thamnophis sauritus that stripe occurs on the 3rd and 4th scale rows. The ribbon snake also has a small white or yellow bar immediately forward of the eye, garter snakes do not.
