Description: George, Fifth and Last Duke of Gordon This is reputed to be the world's first granite statue (1844) and originally stood in the Castlegate. Today it is in the middle of the car park that is Golden Square. The granite came from Dancing Cairn Quarry, near Bucksburn. The Duke lived 1770-1836, was Frank Walker's "savage noble", the first colonel of the 92nd Highlanders and raiser of the first Gordon Highlanders regiment.
