Description: Botanist George Washington Carver. The image has been restored, with dust spots removed, and with levels adjusted to better match his actual skintone. It was quite common for photographers to overrexpose images of darker-skinned people to bring out details, but this was often fixed for publication, and, if uncorrected, has... problematic consequences for how history is imagined.
