Description: Photos of a hand-powered dynamo flashlight used by German soldiers in World War 1. The small unit was worn on a cord around the neck. Pulling the pull-chain spun a flywheel in the device, turning a dynamo to generate electricity that lighted the small incandescent bulb on the front. Each pull kept the bulb lit for about 5 seconds. It was taken from a captured German soldier in 1918. This is one of the first examples of a hand-powered flashlight.
