Description: Head of a woman. Roman copy (perhaps Claudian or 2nd Century AD) of a Greek original (late 4th Century BC). On the other side is the head of a man. Marble, 19cm high. The identity of the two figures is unknown. Based on the iconography, the male figure may be a poet or philosopher; the double statue suggests that the two figures are closely connected. Suggested identities include Krates of Thebes and his wife Hipparchia, or Aristippus of Cyrene and his daughter Arete.[1]
