Description: In Burke Canyon, Idaho. Looking up at the remnant of the Hecla Mine, red brick buildings which are falling apart. There hasn't been a running mine since 1991 but the area is still under security. Burke Canyon is famous for it's violent war involving the miners and company guard dispute in 1892 over pay and other issues. The Canyon is only 300 feet wide so very tight quarters for the community. In 1891, silver/lead ore valued at nine million dollars had been shipped out of the Coeur d'Alene mining district, including a quarter-million dollars' worth of gold bullion.
