Description: The Hopetoun Monument, Byres Hill, East Lothian, Scotland. The monument commemorates John, 4th Earl of Hopetoun (1765-1823), and was built in 1824. It is 180m (560 feet) high. A plaque on the side reads: "This monument was erected to the memory of the great and good John - Fourth Earl of Hopetoun by affectionate and grateful tenantry in East Lothian MDCCCXXIV"
