Description: The deed between colonists William Pynchon, Henry Smith, and Jehu Burr, and native tribesmen Menis, Machetuhood, Cuttonas, Kenis, Commucke, Matanchan, Wess (aka Nepinam), Macossak, Wrutherna, Kockuinek, Winnepawin, Wenawis and Coa, for land to the east and west of the Connecticut River that would be known as the Agawam Plantations or Springfield, Massachusetts. The tribesment were paid with 18 fatham of Wampum, coats, hatchets, hoes, and knives. The deed granting the retention of the tribesmen for the use of crops that they had planted, as well as the fish, deer, and foraged berries and nuts. Provisions also calling for the exchange of the value of any of the corn of their spoiled by colonist cows.
