Description: The Interstate Bridge, across the Columbia River, carries the Interstate 5 freeway and connects Portland, Oregon with Vancouver, Washington. This photo, taken from the river's north shore, in Vancouver, shows almost the full length of the bridge, which is actually two bridges side by side: one built in 1916–17 (the one closest to the photographer) and now used for northbound traffic only, the other a matching one built in 1957–58 and carrying southbound traffic only. The two bridges have vertical-lift sections at the northern end. The "humped" section visible at left, in the southern half of the bridge, was included in the 1958 span when built, and was added to the 1917 span in 1959. (Note: Some perspective distortion is present in this wide-angle photograph.)
