Description: There are two pavilions in the mosque reserved for the sultan, two, because an assassination attempt might fail as it would be unclear which of the two contained the sultan. The Wikipedia has "On 21 July 1905, members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation attempted to assassinate Abdul Hamid II by placing a horse carriage bomb in front of the mosque, an event known as the Yıldız assassination attempt. Although the bomb failed to kill the sultan due to an unforeseen delay, it killed 26 others and wounded 58 more. The attempt was in response to the pogroms and massacres against Armenians and other minorities of the Ottoman Empire carried out by Abdul Hamid II's government, the Hamidian massacres. " So the fear of the sultan was not without grounds. You can see the royal boxes (hünkar mahfili) on the first floor at either extreme of the side with the entrance.
