Image: Item SGN 341 - (Bishop Durieu, Father Le Jeune, and the Very Rev. J.M. Fayard with a large group of Native Indians outside the Roman Catholic Church at North Bend, B.C.)
Description: Oblates of Mary Immaculate missionaries, these itinerant priests visited Indigenous communities like North Bend, BC, imposing what is now known as the "Durieu System". Father Le Jeune was the editor of the notable "Kamloops Wawa" newspaper which used Chinook Jargon (aka Chinuk Wawa) and a modified form of the French duployan shorthand. North Bend features prominently in that newspaper.
