Description: Grave of actor John Leslie "Jackie" Coogan at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California (section F, tier 56, grave 47). Coogan was born on October 26, 1914 in Los Angeles, California. He began his movie career as a child actor in silent films, including playing the title roles in Charlie Chaplin's The Kid (1921) and the 1922 adapation of Oliver Twist. In 1938 he sued his mother and stepfather, who had squandered most of the $3–4 million he had earned. The legal battle provoked the state of California to enact the California Child Actor's Bill, often called Coogan Act, the first known legal protection for the earnings of child performers. As an adult he returned to acting, his most famous role being as Uncle Fester on The Addams Family from 1964–66. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He died of cardiac arrest on March 1, 1984 in Santa Monica, California at age 69.
